When I was browsing photos on Tripadvisor searching for interesting hotels and planning my trip to Koh Samui, Sandalwood Luxury Villas impressed me with its photo of an astounding view. The hotel is located on a very steep hill overlooking a big part of the island. I had to fight up the steep hill which took a lot of effort with my mini scooter. Halfway through my climb up the hill, my scooter refused to continue. It decided that it was going to be me who got us both up to the hotel. I recommend that you rent a more powerful bike or park your bike at the bottom of the hill – a safer option is to have the hotel sent their car to pick you up from there.
I arrived at the hotel exhausted and dripping with sweat so I was very happy when I sat down and got a chilled welcome drink and an ice-cold towel. When sitting in the reception area I was already amazed by the spectacular view. After a while, the owner Robert came and welcomed me to his hotel. Initially, he built his first villa for himself 18 years ago and due to the great interest he gradually created a hotel with ten luxury villas. Robert was kind enough to take me on a short tour around the other villas so I could take more photos for my blog. I was then accommodated in a villa called Orchid.
My room was wonderful – everything was very pleasant and calming to me – exactly what you expect from a hotel. Every inch of my villa was enhanced with amazing Thai detail from paintings, furniture and structure oozed Thai culture. The bathroom was spacious and it has a large spa tub which I indulged in a very pleasant evening bath. Although I had a villa with no private pool, which disappointed me a bit, the main infinity pool is one of the most picturesque spots of the hotel. The view from the pool overlooking the island and the sea is just breathtaking!
The hotel has its own restaurant called Blue Ginger that focuses mainly on the local Thai dishes. I was deciding between my favourite Thai dish Masaman Curry and the Kang Ga-Ree Yellow Curry. Since I was eating Masaman curry for the last couple days I chose the Yellow Curry, which caught my attention with the combination of tomato and pineapple, and it was advised to be less spicy. Although I am not a big fan of spicy food, I love curry – I just need an extra five glasses of water 😀
The next day I came to the restaurant again to have my breakfast. I ordered a local thick pancake with fresh fruit and my favourite latte. Refreshed and full of energy I jumped on my scooter and went to explore another part of the island. Once I got back from that adventurous trip, I just relaxed by the pool and enjoyed the sun. In the afternoon I took my bags and drove on my mini scooter to my next destination.
