After few days in the rainy mountains, we continued our journey down to the coast to WakaGangga Resort & Spa, which is located on the southwest coast of Bali in the rural area of Tabanan.
WakaGangga resort is a quiet retreat away from the noise of the busier beaches in the Kuta area and it is ideal for those who want to experience a beach break with stunning views. The resort combines Balinese-style art and architecture with elements of modern design, all surrounded by the textures and colours of nature. Its secluded location and the tranquil atmosphere are great for those who are seeking serenity. Also, the sun sets directly out to sea, so in the evening you can relax and have a drink as the sun slowly descends.
Our Villa
We were checked in at Garden View Villa where a blend of tradition and rustic elements are combined seamlessly with modern comforts.
Our villa came with a king size bed, large sofa, beautiful sunken bathtub, inside shower, garden shower (my favourite) and a big outdoor living area in the garden.
I really loved the WakaGangga toiletries – their scent and especially their reusable original packaging. They even have a sheet that explains every detail about the ingredients of every bath amenities that were custom made by the Republic of Soap.
The Grounds
The resort is surrounded by brilliantly green terraced rice fields, which slope towards a dramatic black sand beach. The beach is beautiful place for your afternoon strolls, however, it is not a place to swim in the ocean. If you love to swim and you don’t get the pool villa, there is a lovely pool with the ocean view.
Something you’ve probably noticed about WakaGangga is the design carefully means that wherever you are you have a close connection with the natural surroundings. I really enjoyed walking around the resort with its beautiful gardens, ponds, flowers and the resort’s original architecture.
The Restaurant
WakaGangga restaurant confused me at first. I wasn’t sure whether it is the architecture or some reconstruction is going on there. Soon I understood the architectural design concept and I loved it. I’ve never seen anything like it. Also, you will get top notch view from the restaurant. The best spot to watch the ocean while you drink your coffee.
What to do at WakaGangga
There are few activities waiting for you to do – for example you can pay for a quad bike tours around or horse riding on the beach. You can visit a nearby Tanah Lot Temple, which is about 10 km down the road.
WakaGangga resort organises their tailor made guided 4WD WakaLand Cruise through Bali’s most fertile area. Keen to see more of Bali, we decided to take this little cruise into the wild. During the tour we have visited villagers in their homes, enjoyed lunch in a rainforest setting and explored the UNESCO-recognised rice field terraces of Jatiluwih.
